UAE. It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Anthony Chalhoub, co-CEO of Chalhoub Group, on 17 December in Paris following a long battle with cancer. He was 63.

Chalhoub Group, established in 1955, is the leading partner for luxury goods brands across the Middle East, with over 12,000 members of staff operating in 14 countries, and a network of over 600 retail stores.

We at BI-ME are fortunate to have known Anthony for the best part of the last 30 years. He was above all a man driven with passion and love for his family and his business, Chalhoub Group, which he run along with his brother Patrick.

Anthony was blessed with a "savant dosage" (fine-tuned combination) of purposeful leadership and strategic insight, coupled with kindness, generosity and compassion, all served with a good dose of humour.

He played a major role in the development of travel retail in the region. As a co-founding member of MEDFA (Middle East Duty Free Association) he served four years as President.

More recently, together with his brother Patrick, they began the process of steering Chalhoub Group away from being "brand-focused", to becoming "customer-focused".

In a statement Chalhoub Group said: "Anthony was an exceptional fearless leader, driven by his passion and determination. He joined the family venture 43 years ago and has been instrumental in the evolution and the development of the Group. With his humanitarian spirit, honesty, compassion, kindness and his sense of humour, Anthony touched so many hearts."

Our thoughts are with his wife Edith, daughter Aurelia, son Michel, his parents Michel and Widad, brother Patrick and his family, and the whole Chalhoub family.

May his soul rest in peace.
