UAE. In light of the new Land Transport Act coming into effect next month, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with National Transport Authority (NTA) organised a workshop on "Land Transport Law and its by-laws" at its head office today (Tuesday) for the benefit of the Dubai Land Transport Group operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chamber.
The workshop, which was led by Dr. Nadhem Bin Taher, Executive Director, Service Centers Sector, National Transport Authority, was also attended by Mr. Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Director, Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber.
It shed light on the implementation of the new Land Transport Act for the gathering of representatives of companies operating passenger and goods transport within the country and between the UAE and other countries.
In his welcome address, Mr. Nasib stated that the idea behind the organisation of the workshop came as part of both the organisations’ efforts to inform and update the business community about the latest developments in the laws governing road transport activities as well as to avoid any issues or obstacles arising between the UAE businesses and their trading partners in the region.
He further stated that the workshop provided an ideal platform for a constructive dialogue between the private and public sector organisations which has always been the objective of Dubai Chamber to forge a stronger partnership and also to support the business community to make giant strides in a competitive business environment.
In his presentation on the new Land Transport Law and its by-laws, Dr. Nadhem Bin Taher, Executive Director, Service Centers Sector, National Transport Authority, talked about the services provided by his organisation which he said included the issuance and granting of licences related to practising international and inter-emirates road transport services and issuance of Operating Cards for the entry of trucks transporting goods at border crossings as well as vehicles carrying passengers such as tourists and pilgrims.
He further said that the most important feature of the new law is the legislation to the rules of carrying passengers and goods between the UAE and other countries as it specifies the responsibilities and commitment of the parties to ensure the safety of passengers and goods according to international conventions and treaties as well as the punishment applicable to the violators of the law.
He also highlighted the applicable procedure for border clearance which he said will include immigration, security, inspection of goods, customs clearance as well as completing of formalities and the payment of fees.
