DUCAB links offices with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise communications system

UAE. DUCAB, a global cable supplier and manufacturer, has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniPCX Enterprise communications server to merge its communications systems between four locations: two in Abu Dhabi and two in Dubai (including its factories).

The new system leverages the company’s Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure to ensure business continuity in its communications, reducing costs and improving workflow amongst employees. The new system replaces disparate legacy PBX analog systems across these offices.

The new system, consisting of the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX 4760 Enterprise Communication Server along with its complement of IP phones, connects more than 500 uses across the WAN network.

It combines traditional telephone functions with support for IP telephony and multimedia communication to create rich call-handling applications including unified messaging and personal assistant features. The system comes with My Messaging that integrates voice mails with emails into the user’s Microsoft Outlook application.

According to Raihan Aamir, Information Systems Manager at DUCAB, the selection was made based on the technological capabilities and business benefits that a new Voice over IP system would bring. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise’s business partner, Al Futtaim Technologies, worked with DUCAB to evaluate the solution.

The teams uncovered that along with the value of leveraging DUCAB’s WAN for VoIP, utilizing the PCS (Passive Communication Server) solution from Alcatel-Lucent as a survivability for the branches added additional redundancy on the voice network.

The communications project was completed in December 2011 with plans to expand as necessary.
