UAE. The Family Office Co. – the first significant multi-family office in the Arabian Gulf – held its Annual Global Asset Allocation (GAA) conference for the first time in Dubai following the recent establishment of a representative office at the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC).

Entitled “Creating Opportunity During Uncertainty”, the 8th GAA conference, which was held at the Ritz Cartlton DIFC, addressed the issue of finding focus and clarity both in the current market tumult and in the coming years.

The event was attended by more than 200 people and saw keynote speakers, former US National Security Advisors, Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski and Gen. Brent Scowcroft, speak on the main debate topic “The Middle East in 2020”.

Commenting on the event, The Family Office’s Founder and CEO Abdulmohsin Al Omran said: “The world is becoming more complex and, at times of uncertainty, one has to have clarity and continuous access to knowledge in order to formulate a strategy.

While you are trying to meet your goals, your minds are distracted by the day-to-day market movements and geo-political uncertainty. Unless you have a clear strategy and maintain focus, your goals will be difficult to meet.”

Leading world thinkers, Dr. Brzezinski and Gen. Scowcroft, gave insights on the regional geo-political backdrop and the outlook for the global economy.

Dr. Brzezinksi said: “It was pleasure speaking at The Family Office’s conference in Dubai. It gave me a unique opportunity to interact with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and interests. The caliber of speakers was truly impressive and the audience was extremely receptive and engaged posing thought provoking questions.”

Other topics featured at the event included:
• Asset Allocation in a World Lit Only By Fire: Barton M. Biggs - Managing Partner at Traxis Partners New York and Ann Thivierge - Managing Director and Head of Global Equity Allocation Strategy at Morgan Stanley Investment Management New York
• Is the Euro Crisis the Start of a Dollar Recovery: Thomas Stolper - Chief FX Strategist at Goldman Sachs
• Investing in Turbulent Times: Leon Black - Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Director at Apollo Global Management
• High Income investments – The Current Opportunity: Scott Kapnick – Chief Executive Officer and David Frey – Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at
Highbridge Principal Strategies
Following the conference, Mr. Al Omran said: “This is the first year the conference was held in Dubai and we are pleased to have extended our network to include an office here. The Family Office is focused on minimizing risk and as one of the fastest growing regions in the world, the UAE will provide us with a key foothold in this market. Furthermore, the quality of guest speakers and turnout from attendees is a testament to our continued growth regionally and we look forward to a promising year ahead.”

The GAA is an exclusive, closed door gathering providing full-day access to leading international experts allowing prominent family and institutional investors the opportunity to plan their investment strategies globally and to discuss the regional outlook to 2020.
