INTERNATIONAL. DLA Piper received the "Outstanding Achievement Award" at the 2010 Legal Business Awards, held in London on 11 February. 

The special award, which marks the magazine's 200th edition at the end of 2009, was introduced in order to recognise the firm that has made an unrivalled impact on the business of law over the past two decades.

DLA Piper was selected ahead of other nominees including Clifford Chance, Freshfield Bruckhaus Deringer and Linklaters for this coveted award in recognition of its phenomenal rise within the global legal market over the past 20 years. 

The award was presented to Sir Nigel Knowles, joint Chief Executive Officer, whose unwavering commitment to the strategic vision to combine geographic reach with a broad range of legal services has transformed DLA Piper's legacy firms into one of the world's largest legal practices through a series of UK and international mergers.

"The past two decades have been truly remarkable.  The global legal market has undergone tremendous change, which in turn has been a catalyst for development and opportunity within the sector", said Sir Nigel Knowles, joint Chief Executive Officer at DLA Piper.

Sir Nigel continued: "I am delighted to accept this Outstanding Achievement Award, which I feel is recognition of our fantastic journey over the past 20 years.  Our achievements would not have been possible without tremendous teamwork from all our people in each of our key markets, or the support of our clients."
