Algeria to invest US$18 billion in rural development

ALGERIA. The Algerian government has earmarked US$18 billion to finance local development projects over the next three years, Minister for Rural Development Rachid Benaissa announced on 5 April.

Benaissa said that the rural revival national strategy would help nearly 4,000 projects. Since 2003, he said, 43 provinces have benefited from the policy. Benaissa said the local development objectives including modernising rural spaces, distributing economic activities throughout rural areas and protecting and developing Algeria's rural heritage.
