Libya open to doing business with international partners, says Libyan Minister

UAE. The Libyan Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E.  Prof. Fathi Al Akkari said his country was open to doing business with all international partners.

“Libya needs everything. There is huge demand for goods, services and know-how from all sectors of the economy and Libya welcomes all to support its rebuilding efforts, he added.

H.E. Prof. Al Akkari was speaking at the “Future Libya Development Forum 2012: Infrastructure & Rebuild” conference that ended in Dubai on Thursday. The two-day event was held under the patronage of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

In a keynote address on the opening day, H.E. Atiq Juma Nassib, Senior Director of Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber, said the Libyan people had to demonstrate their commitment through a safe economic climate, transparent administration, flexible legislation and an open leadership, for foreign companies to join in the rebuilding effort.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has stressed on the importance of Libya, and companies from Dubai and the UAE could benefit from the “anticipated rebound in economic activity that will offer investment opportunities in banking, construction, tourism, telecommunications, oil & gas, and trade in consumer goods and building materials,” H.E. Nassib said. Dubai Chamber is to lead a trade delegation to Tripoli later this year.

“Libya is potentially important for companies in Dubai and the UAE as it offers fantastic opportunities. But it is not an easy market. Every sector needs investment and offers business opportunities,” said Dr Charles Gurdon, conference speaker and Managing Director, Menas Associates, UK.

Organised by Dubai-based Arabian Reach jointly with Media Sultan Group, “Future Libya Development Forum 2012: Infrastructure & Rebuild” drew over 150 participants representing 60 odd companies from the UAE, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Jordan Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, USA, France, Germany and Serbia.

Raj Menon, Principal Host of organisers, Arabian Reach, announced that following the exceptional response to the event, the next “Future Libya Development Forum Conference and Exhibition” would take place in the Libyan capital, Tripoli in March 2013. The event will be held under the aegis of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and will highlight the investment opportunities, products and services of over 100 participating international companies.

Ahmed El Faghi, General Manager, Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, also graced the conference with his distinguished presence.
