QATAR. EC Harris, the global Built Asset Consultancy, has been appointed by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to deliver the next phase in the development of HamadMedicalCity, the Middle East’s largest-ever healthcare facility and one of the biggest complexes to be built across the world to date.

The next phase of the project will see four new facilities completed including a medicine and rehabilitation hospital, an ambulatory and surgical centre, a women’s hospital and a complete teaching and research complex, which will cover a combined area of 25,000 square metres.

Based in the centre of Doha, these buildings will be situated adjacent to the existing Hamad hospitals and HMC residential accommodation, on the site where the athlete village was located during the 2006 Asian Games.

EC Harris will provide project and programme management, design management and workforce planning services for the new complex utilising expertise and experience gained in the delivery of many of the world’s largest hospital complexes.

The firm will be responsible for overall leadership and co-ordination of the project, inputting on areas ranging from the completion of design drawings through to assessing the number of staff that will be required once the project is complete.

This integrated approach will allow HMC to concentrate on delivering outstanding patient experience and moving forward their extensive healthcare plans for Qatar.

Conor Ellis, Global Account Leader at EC Harris said: “Hamad Medical Corporation has consistently looked to provide excellent healthcare services to the people of Qatar. The latest development of HamadMedicalCity is further evidence of this ongoing commitment as the state of the art facilities will not only facilitate clinical and research developments but also help Qatar in their efforts to recruit and retain the best available staff”.

EC Harris has already begun work on this extensive project, with the contract running for at least two years.

iNTERNATIONAL. Control over Homs will enable al Assad to rapidly move forces from the north to the south to meet emerging rebel threats. It will also provide a key avenue of retreat to the Alawite coast in the event that he needs to flee Damascus.

INTERNATIONAL. A government that slaughters its people and maims a whole generation is not a government with whom to negotiate. It is nothing short of travesty that the Obama administration is still mired in the illusion that a political solution is possible.
