DSF 2012: What's in store for this weekend

UAE. Residents and visitors are in for a another weekend of world-class entertainment, as the Dubai Shopping Festival continues to enthrall  families and children with an array of exciting activities covering fashion, theatre, music,  folkloric dance performances, and much more.

DSF 2012 has rolled out its most spectacular event, Dubai Fashion 2012, which is bound to wow those with a penchant for fashion with its range of fashions shows and exciting activities that focus on enlightening the public on the nitty gritty of the fashion world.

Dubai Fashion 2012, which will be held from 26th January to 4th February, is being organised by Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency under the Department of Economic Development, and organizer of the Dubai Shopping Festival, in association with The Dubai Mall and Paris Gallery. Both are Strategic Partners of DEPE’s Events and Festivals for the Year 2012.  The official makeup brand for Dubai Fashion 2012 is ‘MAKE UP FOR EVER’.

Not to be missed during Dubai Fashion 2012 are the thrice daily Fashions Shows by designers and retailers of renowned brands at the Star Atrium at 6.30pm, 8pm and9pm,  plus a unique 3D Fashion Show based on holography at Bloomingdales Atrium and a Fashion Photography Exhibition  on the second floor, in front of Galleries Lafayette during mall hours.

Another fun event to watch out for is Lights, Camera, Fashion! featuring mock photo shoots to give visitors a better understanding of how a fashion photo shoot is done. This will be held thrice a day at the first floor, Bloomingdales Atrium at 12noon, 3pm and 7pm.

Layali Dubai, the popular progamme of concerts featuring renowned singers from the Arab world will be the cynosure of all eyes at the Burj Steps once again with a performance by Lebanese stars Melheim Zein and Assi Hellani on Friday, 27th January. Every weekend during DSF, the star-studded Layali Dubai series offers mega entertainment  from renowned Arab singers at the Burj Steps at 9pm.

The DSF Carnival, the vibrant face of the festival, moves on to new  with its performers going into action for the first time at the Jebel Ali Racecourse on Friday, 27th January at 1.20pm and 2.35pm, and at 8pm on the same day at Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

On Saturday, 28th January at 6pm, residents from the JLT community will get an opportunity to interact with the roaming performers at a ‘Meet-and-Greet” session, and then watch them in action at 8pm.

More than 70 malls who are participating in DSF 2012 are hosting activities for families and children. You can still get the chance to see the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Will Smith or any of the ‘celebrities’, who are in town for DSF.

The look-alikes and sound-alikes of the Catch-A-Star show, who impersonate their real-life icons, will be performing at Dubai Festival City at  6.30pm, 8.30pm and 10pm on Friday, 26th January and at the same timings on Saturday, 27th January.

Another key attraction is at  Mirdif City Centre, where the themed group Ice Carnival consisting of roaming performers from the DSF Carnival makes a daily walkabout in the mall much to the delight of children. Mirdif City Centre has also organized the Lazy Town show, one of the most popular children’s programs on TV. 

Lazy Town, which brings catchy tunes and kid-friendly comedy, is being held at the mall’s Central Galleria till 4th February. There will be three shows daily at 6.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm, each of 25 minutes duration.

Two mega stars of the Philippine entertainment industry, Sam Milby and Tom Gonzaga will kick off the Filipino community’s 2012 programme of concerts and events during the on-going DSF. The Ultimate Dream Concert: Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby Live in Dubai will be held at 8pm on 27th January at the Dubai Festival City Concert Arena.

More entertainment awaits visitors to the key DSF destination of Al Riqqa Street presented by Al Ghurair Centre including the Monte Carlo Circus at 6pm and 9 pm and the Gymnastics Show at the mall.  In addition, the nearby Night Souq also has a line-up of entertaining activities from 6pm to 1am.

Al Seef Street, the cultural destination of DSF, is offering numerous traditional performances from top folkloric bands from around the world including Mexico, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and from the Balkan and African regions. Al Seef Street comes alive with entertainment from 4pm onwards. 

To top it all is the daily fireworks display at 8.30pm.
