IRAQ. Iraq Duty Free is hopeful of expanding its shop space at Baghdad International Airport. The retailer has submitted plans and a feasibility study to expand its shop in the departure lounge at the country’s international airport.

Ahmed Munther, Managing Director of Iraq Duty Free revealed to Gulf Africa Duty Free magazine: “We have submitted all the documentations needed to the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authorities and we are in the final process of getting the approval.”

On 8 December, the retailer also unveiled its new diplomatic duty free shop in the Green Zone in Baghdad. It is also finalising a new contract with the coalition forces in Iraq to open stores at each and every base for the forces. This follows the opening this month of its large point of sales complex at Camp Victory in Baghdad.

The retailer said it will also be eyeing up border shop opportunities in the near future.
